From the outside nothing warns you that you are not going to eat meat (or egg, or cheese) at all. But when you come in, you start to feel something. At the appetizer you start to taste the difference. At the main dish you will think “What the heck is it?”.

Spring Roll (are they spring rolls?).

Awesome soup.

Hamburger?

Amazing Cake.

Not-so-bad espresso.

Overall, I recommend that you try Fresh by Juice For Life on Bloor St. – the experience is worth the visit (and the bill).

As a customer, you have free internet at Aroma Espresso Bar.

Here how it works: you buy something at Aroma Espresso Bar, whatever you want. Let’s say you decide to buy a double espresso. Then the teller will give you a receipt. Keep it. On the receipt you will find a name and a password.

Look at the end of the Aroma Espresso Bar’s receipt: there is a special note for laptop users. Here what you will find

Laptop Users
Kindly sit on a bar stool
WiFi User Name: aroma
WiFi Password: guestXYZW

Where XYZW are actually numbers. You can connect to the Aroma Espresso Bar’s WiFi network and then load a webpage on your web browser. Any webpage. You will see the Aroma Espresso Bar’s web login screen, and then you have to type the user name (aroma) and your password (e.g. guest9934).

The good thing: Aroma’s WiFi is free for customers and it seems pretty fast.

The bad thing: you need a full browser to access Aroma’s WiFi. I tried it on my iPhone. I just don’t know on other cell phones.

Toronto has a quite big Italian community. I am italian myself and I can easily tell if a restaurant offers real italian food or not. a friend (thanks Les!) suggested me to try Terroni Restaurant in Downtown Toronto. There are a couple of Terroni restaurants in Downtown Toronto: I went to the one conveniently located in Adelaide St. I guess the food is from Souther Italy. Overall the taste is not too different from a real Italian restaurant in Italy.

We started with a soup which was very good. Then I had a pizza (very good), Bowen had a Lasagna (not too good, it seems it is warmed in the microwave) and then we ordered a typical italian dessert: Tiramisù (picture). The dessert was good, although it had a slight american taste.

After all, this restaurant has a nice atmosphere, good food and service is not bad: Enjoy Italian food in Toronto!

Want to spend a nice weekend outside Toronto during the winter?
Take a ride out to Blue Mountains!

Blue Mountains is a famous skiing place not far from Toronto (approx. <3hrs driving). From Toronto, you have to take the Highway 400 North to Barrie and take exit 98. You cannot miss it. Just keep on going on Highway 26 west to Collingwood when out of the highway.

During the winter, snow storms are quite likely to happen, so be prepared to drive in bad conditions. If you are not comfortable with driving in the snow, you had better leave Toronto in the morning just in time to get to Collingwood with the daylight.

Personally, I have been to Mountain Springs Resort. It is a very nice and warm resort. Although, during the winter it is very crowded and not every room is as nice as it appears on leaflets and on their website. We had water leaking from the ceiling: we moved to a new upgraded room but I guess that there are big building materials quality issues at Mountain Springs Resort. I had a great time with Bowen anyway ^_^

The main village of Blue Mountains is not far from Mountains Springs, which is located in Skiing place number 4. Every resort will provide you with a small convenient map: there are 4 areas in Blue Mountains. The main village of Blue Mountains is between number 1 and number 2.

Even if many Torontonians and Canadians come to Blue Mountains for skiing, as a European I feel that the Mountain is actually only a small hill. But I guess that for low-skilled snowboarders this place is very funny. You can easily go down the hill without worrying of hurting yourself.

Want a break from Toronto’s busy life? Enjoy Blue Mountains|

Toronto public transport (aka TTC) works very well. You can take subway to get almost anywhere in downtown. If some places are not close to any subway station you may use streetcars or buses to get there.

The funny thing is that there are not tickets for Toronto subway/streetcars, actually. To use TTC you need tokens: small coins with a golden frame. TTC tokens are smaller than 1-cent coins. One TTC token costs $2.75.

Toronto Subway is also known as “The Rocket”: Ride the rocket! Toronto Subway is a convenient way to travel through Downtown or even further places like Yorkdale or Scarborough. And when you get out of the subway, you can use streetcars to reach your destination.

I am surprised that even during the winter, with heavy snow, Toronto TTC Streetcars works pretty well. No huge delays or problems of any sort. You have to get a ticket (token) before getting on, though. They don’t sell tickets on board. Although, if you use a token for the subway, you can get a Transfer and get on a streetcar at no cost.
